Britain’s leading supplier of floral features is reporting a sharp rise in orders for designer planters and one-off floral displays from customers looking to finish off their hard landscaping schemes in style.
Plantscape says 2015 saw its supply an unprecedented succession of bespoke planters, including jet black wooden tree planters for a private garden and specially built triangular planters for a luxury housing scheme in Hertfordshire. It also recorded a bumper year for commissioned floral displays, including a red, white and blue display to mark the arrival of Cunard’s Three Queen ocean liners in Liverpool in May and a pastel-themed display for the streets close to Nottingham’s Trent Bridge Cricket Ground, ready for the Ashes Test last summer.
The year also saw customers create their own new planter trends, with Blackburn Business Improvement District placing elevated planters on the side of bollards and on sign-posts in order to bring the colour down to street level.
Mark Stone, managing director of Plantscape, said: “We have supplied floral features for many years now and the requests that we got from our customers last year were as imaginative as any that we have received in our history.
“We now deal in more plants and supply a wider range of planters than ever before, from our popular smart brushed steel planters to unvarnished oak products that create a natural, weathered feel, all in response to the latest trends.
“It’s wonderful for the industry. Not only does it demonstrate that designers, architects, councils and businesses continue to recognise the benefits of public flower displays, they are willing to bring their own ideas to bear on the displays as well.
“Doubtless it will mean that we will have to increase our product range and source more new plants in 2016 but we thrive on that and we cannot wait for what the year holds.”
At the heart of each planter is the secret to the company’s success: its patented water-saving system which enables the plants to thrive with just one watering a week – saving a fortune on water and maintenance.
Based in Ashbourne, Derbyshire, Plantscape offers a quality plant-up and season-long maintenance service as well as a full range of products, including hanging baskets, lamppost-mounted Holestar planters, floor-standing multi-tiered planters and barrier baskets.
It has previously supplied planters for a host of major sporting events, including the 2012 Olympic Games in London, the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Wimbledon, the Tour de France and the British Open Golf.
It also works closely with its sister company, Securiscape, which last year fitted its PAS 68:2010 security planters – which are capable of halting a vehicle-borne terrorist attack – outside a bank in the heart of the City of London, having already installed them outside One Hyde Park Corner, the Candy Brothers’ exclusive development in Knightsbridge.
