Hydraway Sportsdrain is the key technology behind the success of the Turfdry Drainage System, delivering maximum drainage efficiency with minimum disruption to existing turf. An alternative to conventional plastic pipes, Hydraway Sportsdrain intakes water 3-times quicker, is installed in trenches only 50mm wide, and is even effective at zero gradient – thanks to its unique construction that combines optimum filtration with proven clog-resistance. Turfdry – a sports turf drainage & construction specialist – was founded 20 years ago by MD Melvyn Taylor on the belief that the unique requirements of sports turf demand truly specialist consideration.  At that time – and the problem still persists today – sports turf drainage systems were designed using agricultural drainage principles, and installed with unsuitably heavy agricultural machinery. It was this desire to deliver optimal results for the end users of sports turf that led to the development of the Turfdry Drainage System using Hydraway Sportsdrain.

This system has been tried, tested, and proven in the UK, for over 20 years, in a wide range of sports turf applications. An independent telephone survey conducted by STRI in 2003 (based on schemes installed over the previous eleven years) reported 100% of clients contacted found it to be effective.

Our specially designed equipment, on low ground pressure tyres, enables the machine installation of Hydraway as the trench is cut, with excavated soil being loaded directly into a trailer via high-lift soil conveyor to ensure neat and tidy operations. After back-filling the trenches with gravel or Lytag, the installation is completed by an application of sand or rootzone, and rolled flat. In some scenarios (e.g. golf course fairways), the surface is then ready for immediate re-use.

Turfdry is currently working at the Rayleigh Club in Essex, where the 2014 installation of the Turfdry Drainage System using Hydraway Sportsdrain on all 18 holes of the championship standard South Course proved so successful that work has begun on a comprehensive installation on the East Course. Turfdry also recently returned to Enfield Golf Club to drain a further 6 greens, following the tremendous success of Turfdry’s flood remediation scheme installed last year. Demand for the Turfdry Drainage System is such that numerous other golf and sports pitch projects are lined up for the remainder of 2015 and into 2016.
