Garden Masterclass

Garden Masterclass is an educational programme created over eight years ago by garden designer Annie Guilfoyle and horticulturalist and writer Noel Kingsbury. Both Annie and Noel realised that there was simply not enough high-quality educational events and workshops on offer for professional garden designers, landscape architects and horticulturalists. The Garden Masterclass programme is deliberately held in locations all over the United Kingdom, Ireland and continental Europe, as in the past there has been very little on offer outside the south-east.  Garden Masterclass now offer online learning with webinars, courses and free talks.  There is a membership scheme which offers discounts on events and webinars.

The tutor list includes many of the most highly respected names in the landscape design and horticultural industry such as Liz Nicholson, Dan Pearson, Matt Pottage, Caroline Jackson, Tom Stuart-Smith, Paul Hensey, Dr. Noel Kingsbury, Claudia West, John Little, Nigel Dunnett, Magda Pelka, Annie Guilfoyle and James Hitchmough.  For live events group numbers are purposely limited to a maximum of between 20 to 30 people, ensuring that attendees receive high-quality learning with the tutor, smaller numbers also enable extremely thought-provoking group discussions.  Events may be lecture based or offer a more hands-on, practical workshop approach to learning.

This year there are several events specifically aimed at landscape architects, including a symposium at Nicholsons in Oxfordshire exploring sustainable design and in particular their new tool called ‘Elemental’ designed to support the landscape industry design with best outcomes for climate and nature. By considering all impacts from materials use, carbon accounting, biodiversity, water impacts, communities and society, elemental offers information that will help all businesses be mindful of their interactions.  James Hitchmough will be joining Charlie Harpur at Knepp Walled Garden to study the design and planting and we will be returning to The Plant Library at Serge Hill for three, seasonal study days. Study days run from 10am until 4.30 and include lunch and refreshments.
