Woodscape : Designing the Nation

Woodscape have been creating beautiful hardwood street furniture and external structures for some of the UK’s most vibrant public spaces for 40 years.

A privately-owned, family-business founded upon the guiding principles of designing and manufacturing hardwood furniture of only the highest quality, we are widely regarded for creating wooden furniture that showcases British craftsmanship at its best.

Through our #designthenation campaign we are demonstrating the breadth of our urban design experience and working relationships with architects, planners and landscape designers across the country, highlighting projects far and wide, such as:

Trefoil Seat, Southampton

Woodscape worked in conjunction with Southampton City Council to design the Trefoil Seat, using the local architecture, particularly the stone carvings in the Church at the location, as its inspiration. The church behind the seat features trefoil stone carvings and this became the basis of the design.

The seat incorporates engraved Stainless Steel with our trademark Naturally Very Durable Hardwood for a durable and robust construction.

Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, London

The London 2012 Olympic Park required innovative street furniture for the post-games transformation of the area into a permanent parkland.

Woodscape designed and manufactured a suite of bespoke timber street furniture for the project, in accordance with the LLDC Inclusive Design Standards, including slatted picnic tables, special curved seats with backrests and also lounger style seating in a range of sizes to suit the scheme.

Castle Street, Liverpool

Castle Street is within the UNESCO World Heritage Site and the Castle Street Conservation Area and there is a great concentration of superb quality architecture, that required furniture that would conserve and enhance the character of the streetscape whilst making for a more exciting and accessible environment.

Woodscape designed and manufactured a series of bespoke timber benches, featuring cast bronze armrests with stainless steel legs, which reflected the civic grandeur of the street.

Scarborough Harbourside

Street furniture was required to aid the harbour in transforming from being perceived as divided, run-down and road-dominated to a place for lingering, enjoying the views and attracting inward investment.

Woodscape designed innovative hardwood seating, including the sculptural ‘loafer’ seats, a fisherman’s lock-up and bus stop for the town’s historic fishing harbour.

Slessor Gardens, Dundee

Dundee City Council wished to achieve 9 themed areas within Slessor Gardens, located in the Central Waterfront area of Dundee, and they utilised our Clifton Seat, Large Bale Seats, Chaise Longues and Pergolas. The Queen attended to formally open the gardens in July 2016.
