Introducing Woodscape’s Woodberry Planter seat

Woodscape worked alongside In-Ex Landscapes and Murdoch Wickham Landscape Architects to design and manufacture sophisticated Naturally Very Durable Hardwood seats, benches and planters for the Woodberry Down regeneration project in Hackney, North London. As well as supplying the decking and seating from their Classic Range, Woodscape developed a contemporary Woodberry Planter Seat for the project – now available in curved, L-shaped and straight designs – which clip neatly and easily onto the planters.

Hardwood Seats and Planters, Woodberry Down

Project: Woodberry Down

Location: Hackney, North London

Products: Woodberry Wall Seats, Type 8 Benches, Type 5 Seats, Decking and Modular Planters

Architects: In-Ex Landscapes, Murdoch Wickham Landscape Architects

Woodscape worked alongside In-Ex Landscapes and Murdoch Wickham Landscape Architects to design and manufacture sophisticated Naturally Very Durable Hardwood seats, decking, benches and planters for the Woodberry Down project in North London. The choice of products reflects the quality of the new premium residential development, as well as its stunning new urban landscape design.

The regeneration scheme involved demolishing 1,980 homes on the estate and building more than 5,500 new ones – with 41% for social renting and shared ownership. The residential development is located on the banks of the New River, with views overlooking the West and East Reservoirs.

Taking pride of place within the landscaping are the Woodscape Bespoke Curved and L-Shaped Woodberry Wall Seats allow residents of the new neighbourhood development to sit and relax in the large courtyard areas.

The design of the newly created Woodberry seats includes precision-engineered, water-jet cut slats 40mm wide x 40mm high – and in various bespoke lengths. The contemporary urban furniture reflects the modern courtyard landscaping, presenting a premium finish. The products clip neatly onto the walls with an easy-install retro-fit feature.

The Woodscape Modular Planter System elements used in the scheme were installed on site in various formations to create greener courtyard areas. This timber planting product addresses the growing demand for introducing greenery to the urban environment. Whilst offering the client a versatile solution for creating planting zones in urban roof gardens, balconies and terraces, it can also provide the more traditional application of planters at ground level.

Woodscape Modular Planters are manufactured in a huge range of shapes and sizes with the benefit of quick and easy on-site assembly. The addition of integrated flush LED lighting introduced for this project, means that the seating can be utilised more in the evenings too.

A number of Woodscape’s hardwood signature Type 8 Benches and Type 5 Seats were also provided to offer alternative seating arrangements throughout the site and create added interest within the urban landscaping setting as well as their hardwood timber decking.

The site boasts a breadth of outdoor space, with the West Reservoir Water Sports Centre visible from the development. The 30% increase in public open space with the three new public parks created, means a stronger network of open spaces for residents to enjoy and is now proving immensely popular.

Prestigious companies and organisations involved in creating this premium, green residential development are Woodberry Down Community Organisation, Berkeley Homes and Genesis Housing Association.
